In dealing with /mes ...

This isn't a fucking board game. You don't have to /roll EVERY SINGLE ACTION.

Wouldn't you agree with me? I mean..if someone is facing away from you and you push them, don't you think they should be pushed!? This is a problem I've had in-server with a couple of people.

I tried to grab a CE's arm when he was dealing with someone else and he called me a power-gaming noob, and ignored my /me completely.

It also seems like no-one wants to die..you always make an excuse not to die, that's one reason why RP's always suck, the people. They never want to flow with the RP, it always has to go their way.

So would StaR or someone please explain this to everyone..?

Col. StaR

I hate /me fighting. It becomes more of an oral argument than an actual fight, so no one really knows what's going on. And it becomes hell if other people walk into it, only to see descriptions of... whatever.

I, personally, use a skill, speed, and typing system.

Skills System:
Evaluate the target, and check whether or not they have the qualifications, skills, and abilities to do what is being said. Some newbie fresh on the rock probably will not be able to pull their gun in the blink of an eye, nor will they know the 5-finger heart-stopper technique. However, someone who is trained and/or experienced will be able to do such things. If the underclassman player tries to do anything out of their league, I call bullshit on it, and disregard it.

Speed: As far as I believe, every /me counts as 2 seconds or less. Can your character pull off this action in 2 seconds? If so, go for it: a simple punch, kick, or drawing of a gun will work. If not, use multiple /me's OR use one general /me, and wait until you believe the action would be finished. If someone tries "/me disarms the nuclear device" or "/me unholsters the RPG and shoots the tank", I'd call bullshit on that and it would be disregarded.

Speed Typing: Because typing an action that takes 2 seconds actually takes longer than the 2 second action itself, I view speed as essential. In a way, the player with the fastest typing skills earns a better dexterity skill for their character. Can't figure out what to do next? That hesitancy reflects itself in your character as well. Adrenaline pumping? If so, you're getting worked up over nothing... OH, and your biochemical response is shared. First come, first serve? More like First /me, first hit.

However, remember to watch out for powergaming, "/me kills you and you die", and common sense.

Wow. Make everyone who play on Desertia, learn this.

excellent guide.

I tend to just go with the flow. Example: I got shot in the knee a day or two ago. I also had a Tavor. I reasoned that me trying to draw the Tavor would probably take longer than it would for the mugger to blow me away. So, I just went with the flow and everything turned out better.

Protip: Weigh your options before you try shit.

Zstan, you got a fucking point there. I as a Sand Puma find these people a lot. And it's most of the time, "lol no you can't kellz me I r speciulz seez" If a bloody animal with three legs and sharp claws plus is a lot bigger than you and is 10x stronger than you, you expect to win? No mofo, run.

Afromana

Might sound selfish or powergame-ish, but im getting tired of people that just walk up to these creatures when they're basicly ready to kill you.
Would you aproach a lion?
Would you aproach even a violent dog?
No?

Anyways, hopefully people will read this "Guide" you could say, and we'll find some even better roleplay moments.

Rather contridictory, considering your first rule.

Non-character benefits = RP influenced by non-inworld attributes, which in a sense is metametametagame. Come on now :|.

Random rookie isn't going to have more honed reflexes and dexterity next to a 2 year military vet because the player used Maevis Beacon's Speed typing bullshit. That's all just one crock of hypocrisy.

This is why the D20/D&D system is better in every way.

If some one with an average vocabulary is RPing to be some intelligent being, then basing all of their actions directly off the main person would make his character's high intelligence moot, therefore making the personality of the PC moot.

D20's system has checks, and you get the result of your check That's because the check represents your CHARACTERS intelligence/diplomacy/etc, not your own. If this doesn't make any sense to you then your a big silly ball.

In short, one's character should be the ONLY determining aspect of 'speed' or 'skill', otherwise it's metagaming and your breaking your own rules in a sense.

But how would one know? You can't just SAY "I am a 10 year military veteran"
That's powergaming in-itself.

(Sorry if I misspelled..my fingers are freezing and I can't feel them.)

It's not meta-gaming if your character is actually a 2 year military vet in Desertia. Durphurp.

Yeah, my character on SRP is really experienced, he's lived 8 real months, mostly in Duty. Of course it's ignored. New characters say they're Veteran with a 1 month old character, that annoys me.

Hmmm, smells like something called God Modding, which is as bad as metgame/powergaming.

Well it's not. I play SRP like the character is actually alive. I try my hardest to not die, avoiding conflict and such.
