If anyone is seeking to become a hero, that means they're trying to hard and will probably get themselves killed doing something stupid.

There's a thin line between bravery and stupidity. If everyone is trying to be the hero, I'd expect there be some admins to beat them back and go "lol no back to the fields peasant". I said in my post above, absolutely NO ONE should be trying to be the hero! However, I said for admins to give occasional and realistic opportunities to be recognized as a hero. I think you missed our point.

Spades definitely got into the heart of my suggestions. It's about wanting to be a hero. It's about becoming one unexpectedly. Do badass things if it's in your character but people can tell when you're going out of your way to be a 'hero'. It's called bad acting and 'hamming it up.'

Alternatively, I'd love to see a Don Quixote kind of character who's REALLY cheesy and tries hard to be a hero like that.

TL;DR - You're only a hero when you realise heroic acts are only heroic because you're not trying to be heroic.

What people need is an every day struggle or advancement. Something that they have to overcome every day. Keeps things interesting ya know?

And yes, we need to throw a slightly more heavier influence on sides between good and evil. Maybe not off the bat, but sometime down the road. And I'm not talking about these powerful mages, or these Templar characters or priest knights that are really fucking powerful and kill the fun for the common rabble. I refuse to take part in a server that goes on a mage hunt every day, like when Paintcheck was around. No offense to him of course. I'm talking about Waring houses, The kings men versing an Orc encampment.. The towns militia or guards taking on invading bandits.. That sort of shit. Some thing that gives people a reason to work for one side and improve in said society. I fucking loved it when we had to deal with possessed bandits that raided the town. Was a ton of fun to lead my guardsmen and the towns citizens in a defense. EVERYONE took part in something they could succeed in.

I'm not saying scrap away all our mages and priest knights, but include them less and more of something the common player could partake in without being cast aside by players with complete unfair advantages.

And maybe we should also throw a focus on the crafting again. Not a heavy focus like were arming a force, but side work that we have dedicated masters to, who can help the younger people eek out a living with their professions.

You mean the like two times there was a mage hunt? That was too much in several months of uptime? Yeah players totally were just cast aside for that the nerve of that being a server wide event twice. How dare Cutch and Zombiehunta and I do that? -_-

What amuses me most about this topic is everything Ragolution suggested was already in Crussaria during its period of success. Then people started whining about "dmnpcs " (probably because it meant the players couldn't be the "main character") so we tried the faction noble house thing which didn't work because the players didn't join them. This is an important issue that needs to be decided quickly and that people need to weigh in inn instead of being completely silent until things get really bad and then crying and playing the blame game instead of actually posting constructive stuff like what happened in April. Your complaints about mages being the story center were taken into account when the server was up 6 months ago and the result was the stagnant failure of the "factionalized" server. Maybe mages don't have to be the dmnpcs but the server was about a million times better when things were more individualized (like Rag suggests/like how it actually was) than trying to make medieval stalker or fallout factions.
The only regret I had regarding Crussaria was allowing the necromancer/demon shit. I was not going to let that happen originally but enough players asked for it I finally acquiesced and it turned into a clusterfuck. The first iteration of the magic war was a much better idea for a storyline in the eyes of most people who actually wrote the original lore/were the original "dmnpcs".
