Benedict Obson - The Village Executioner

In the land of Crussaria every city, and nearly every village would be home to a traditional Executioner.
These men have the grant from the Church and Rulers to take life from this world, and send them it heaven or hell without trial or legal action as a punishment seen fit and set by Authorities. Criminals would see their execution as a holy event, as it would be their final chance to prove themself worthy for heaven, the Executioner would escort the criminals soul from the mortal world. It was tradition for the Criminal to forgive the Executioner before the deed, and speak out any last words.

Executioners are often butchers or barber surgeons, having the best known knowlege of the Human Anatomy, they would know the correct methods of killing, and how to perform each with efficiently. For example measuring the drop from a hanging correctly. They are holy men, not the King's torturers or henchmen, the job is respected and well payed.

The Criminal can pay the Executioner to make his death quicker or less painfull, or to be Executed in private instead of public. A civilian can pay an Executioner to aid with suicide if needed.
Quote
The executioner was usually presented with a warrant authorizing or ordering him to execute the sentence. The warrant protects the executioner from the charge of murder

Benedict Obson comes from a known family of nobles, after proceeding a life as a barber surgeon the oppertunity of Executing for the court arose; and was taken. He was a well built, intelligent man with years of schooling behind him.

Ignore the shoes, jeans, tattoo, and spikes.
They are butchers and surgeons, its only a part-time job in medieval life.
