G'heal, Helmast Kingdom - Thirty years ago
The woman was still holding the baby when the hooded figure walked into the door of the ruined hut. The child, no more than five months old, was crying. He had probably not been fed for a day. The man motioned the flies away from the woman's dead, cold face which wore a look of surprise and fear. Further investigation of the corpse indicated what appeared to be a wound from a claw. The man stood, sniffing the air. He froze for a second, then drew his rapier just in time to meet the vampire's claws. The thin, pale creature shoved the man against the mud brick wall. "So, witcher, we finally meet," the figure said, sticking its tongue out in a taunt. The witcher kicked the vampire back and made a quick finish with a stab to the heart. The silver lining in the blade killed the demon quick, causing it to contract and wrinkle. Removing his rapier from the vampire's body, he diverted his attention to the crying baby. The deceased mother's body had already set into rigor mortis, making it difficult to open her arms. "What is your name, orphan?" the Witcher inquired. The baby, of course, did not respond. "So be it, "The witcher said, "your name shall be Hector. Hector of G'heal."

Spear Forest, Helmast Kingdom - Five years ago
Hector stood in the winter cold, not even shivering. He had arrived at dusk and, as his training taught him, he had gradually retracted his pupils to accustom himself to the night atmosphere. It had already been six hours, and his prey still had not shown. Still, Hector persisted in his patience and waited it out. Another hour passed before it came into view, a large spider. A queen, infact. It had to be at least sixteen feet long and thirteen spread. The spider would not catch his scent. He had been sure to lose any trace of a human scent by rubbing gunka leaves on his skin. Hector notched an arrow in his longbow as slowly, the spider edged towards its nest. Suddenly, it realized its eggs were gone, but it was too late. Hector had already strained the string and aimed. In a split second, the arrow was lodged in the spider queen's abdomen. In another moment, two more arrows had found their way into its legs, immobilizing it. Satisfied, Hector changed his hands to his steel kampilan and approached the creature which was somewhere between three and four times his size. Hector could feel the creatures pain and was quick to end its fate with a decapitating blow. Picking up the head, Hector returned to his camp.

Like other monster-slayers of his kind, Hector almost always worked alone. He was only twenty five years old, but he was a very skilled witcher. Funny, the name was. And even funnier were people's reactions to his appearance. Like all true witchers, he was trained to have the ability to open and contract his pupils on command. This gave his eyes an almost catlike appearance. But other than that and his scars, he looked like everyone else. But, of course, he wasn't treated that way. No one felt comfortable around him, no one liked him, and no one wanted to be associated with him or any other witcher unless they were being assaulted by an enormous spider. Hector often pondered this alienation to society, especially at times like this when he had just finished a hunt and it made him question... was it really worth it? I should have died with my mother... he thought to himself, laying down in his cot. Many times had his mentor relived the night he had saved Hector from the clutches of death and the value of a life debt. Hector lived up to that debt, but so longed the feeling of normality. To not be treated with contempt, fear, or alienation. Not only that, but they treated him like a robot. So was it that they thought he had no feelings purely because he expressed no contempt toward any person, human or olde race... Humans were a sad race...

Hector examined his equipment which was laid out before him. He had his iron kampilan, a silver rapier(his former mentor's), and his longbow. This included his leather jacket and sling, which had several pouches that he carried his potions and traps in. Also attached to the sling was a quiver furnished from wolf hide.

Was meaning for it to look like it was made a bit out of hide.
